I had such a blast documenting R + S’s Buffalo River summer elopement at the incredible Sam’s Throne overlook in northern Arkansas. This spot, tucked away near the Buffalo National River, is one of my favorite places for adventurous couples who want an intimate and unforgettable elopement experience.
We started the afternoon at their cozy cabin in the Ozarks, where R + S shared a private first look surrounded by the sounds of cicadas and the soft rustle of summer leaves. You could feel the calm excitement between them as they took a few deep breaths and got ready to head out for their ceremony.
The drive and short hike to Sam’s Throne are always worth it—especially in summer, when everything is lush, green, and glowing in the warm Arkansas light. The park was surprisingly quiet that day, which made the whole experience even more intimate. We had the overlook almost entirely to ourselves, with views stretching across the rolling hills and cliffs of the Buffalo River valley.
As we reached the overlook, a gentle breeze swept through—just enough to cool the air and make the moment feel even more alive. R + S chose their own ceremony spot right on the bluff’s edge, surrounded by wildflowers and endless views. They exchanged personal vows as the sun dipped lower, casting golden light over the valley. I always love when couples choose their own ceremony location—it’s so meaningful knowing they can return to that very spot someday to relive the moment.
After their vows, I gave them a little time to themselves to simply soak it all in—the sound of the wind, the warmth of the rock beneath their feet, and the realization that they were finally married. Those quiet, unposed moments are some of my favorites to capture.
As the sun set, we took a few more portraits along the trail before heading back up toward the parking area. I signed their marriage license, and just like that, their Buffalo National River elopement was official! This simple, minimalist elopement package was exactly what R + S wanted—no stress, no crowd, just the two of them, nature, and a whole lot of love.
If you’re dreaming of a Buffalo River summer elopement, this area has endless possibilities. Between the cliffs, trails, waterfalls, and wide-open overlooks, it’s the perfect place for couples who want a mix of adventure and intimacy. Whether you’re planning a full weekend in the Ozarks or a quick sunset ceremony, there’s no better backdrop for your love story.
