Okay, Oklahoma, I see you. Gloss Mountain State Park is stunningly beautiful and it has the perfect desert views and feel without being too far out of town. It’s only two hours from Tulsa, near the little town of Enid. Planning your engagement session or elopement at Gloss Mountain State Park? Here are some tips!

Tips for Taking Engagement Photos at Gloss Mountain State Park

1. Bring TONS of water! It gets hot, especially in the summer. Temps can easily reach 110 degrees or more.
2. Bring sunscreen– especially at sunset! That light is blinding!
3. Don’t forget to bring water + dog bowl + booties for your furry friends! The sand and clay can scald doggie paws.
4. If you’re planning to hike to the top of the mesa, you’ll want some comfortable shoes. It’s only about a 10 minute hike to the top, but it’s pretty rigorous.
5. You can walk all around the mesa. Because we were headed to the Little Sahara Sand Dunes after the session at Gloss Mountain, we opted for shooting just on the edge by the stairs.

Tips for Eloping at Gloss Mountain State Park

1. You’ll want to contact the parks service about a wedding permit if you plan to actually get married in the park.
2. You’ll want to plan your elopement for a weekday evening or at sunrise to avoid crowds. We went to Gloss Mountain for this session in late June and there was no one there. Most people avoid the park in the summer but the heat it’s as oppressive closer to sunset.
3. Definitely plan on checking out the Little Sahara sand dunes while you’re out there! They are only 25 minutes away and they’re simply beautiful to visit.
4. The closest town is Enid, which is about an hour away, so plan accordingly.
